Jay Whiting For Shakopee City Council
Reelect Jay Whiting Shakopee City Council
Priorities
#1 Priority - Support for a new era for the Shakopee Fire Dept. As times have changed in Shakopee, along with other communties, it has become very dificult to provide the necessary services using a volunteer (paid on call) type of department. Utilizing a detailed audit provided to the Shakopee City Council changes have been made. My top goal is to support the new Chief and any reforms that may be coming to our fire department . #2 Priority - Innovation "HUB" The Innovation center project has the support of Federal and State leadership to the tune of millions of dollars in dedicated funding. This project will provide business and entrepreneurs the opportunties to help develop their businesses and employees. I cannot think of a better way to support local innovation and businees but to fully support this project.
#3 Priority - “Cultural Corridor”
Reasons I am excited and support this future project
• New development along with potential historical tourism.• Utilize portions of the Parks Master Plan – that had input from a broad swath of interested parties.• Historic content – o New archeological remnants are turning up all the time along the riverfront corridor. The interpretation of this could create an even larger tourist attraction.o Schroeder Brick and Lime kilno The Landing (which would open to no fee – (with current proposal)• Memorial Park o Native American contento Park upgrades scheduled for 2021o Pond home foundationo Shakopee Heritage Society Pathways of Shakopee History Project• Potential for creative interactive digital recreations (proposal)• Huber Parko Potential upgrades as outlined in Parks Master Plano Riverbank stabilizationo Holmes home foundation• Historic Bridge• Boat Landing• Archery range• Gazebo • Partnerships o The SMSC (who own a portion of the riverfront)o Three Rivers Park Districto The Shakopee Heritage Societyo The Scott County Historical Societyo Various Watershed Districtso Minnesota DNR Priority 4. Taxes I am proud to have helped deliver continued low taxes. Shakopee remains one of the lowest taxed communities by comparison, in the Twin Cities. The City cannot control your homes value or what other jurisdictions (County, School District & other) tax you. But we have made great strides keeping your taxes low. Anyone who say’s different are not looking at the facts.
